Miguel Aguirre, an internationally trained Health Practitioner, dreamt of someday practicing medicine in Canada. He is currently pursuing this dream as an International student at Mohawk.
For many International students like Miguel, he knew starting over in a new country would not be easy. Fortunately, he was able to receive a scholarship made possible by a generous donor.

Miguel received the 2021 Celebration of Learning Academic Excellence Award in Allied Health and the President’s Award of Student Excellence.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot has been learned about supporting our student community. Many have faced the loss of part-time jobs and adjusting their home resources to accommodate virtual and remote learning.
Our international students are a particularly vulnerable group as many depend on financial support from part-time jobs that are no longer available. Funds from families back home may not be available when their home countries are also struggling.
For these reasons, we’ve created the COVID Relief Fund and the International Relief Fund to help to support our students during these unprecedented times.
